Rep. Kind Statement on the Inauguration of Barack Obama

January 20, 2009
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) today made the following statement regarding the inauguration of our 44th President, Barack Obama.

“Today, millions of people braved the cold and the crowds to celebrate one of our nation’s proudest moments. Today truly is about breaking down barriers and taking another step in the evolution of our democracy – moving past issues of race and gender, and moving back to our great tradition of unity in difficult times.

“I agree with President Obama that our country is at its best when we can break through the partisan divide and come together in common purpose. I hope the excitement and “yes we can” spirit that has permeated his campaign will continue as our country faces some of the biggest challenges we’ve seen. I hope the people who came out in droves to vote for the very first time remain engaged in the discourse. And I hope that every American – Democrat, Republican, or Independent – took a moment today to appreciate the history we witnessed and the renewal of our great democracy.”
