U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) on Friday released the following statement following President Obama's remarks on Iraq.
"I commend the President for following through on his promise to withdraw our troops from Iraq by the end of this year. The Iraqis must now take full responsibility for their country and make the tough political compromises vital to achieving lasting peace.
"Our troops and their families have given up so much for our country and we can never thank them enough. I've made four trips to Iraq and nothing has made me more proud to be an American than seeing the job our men and women in uniform do to keep us safe.
"We will never forget those Wisconsin soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice serving in Iraq. As we take care of our troops in conflict, I promise to take care of our veterans at home, ensuring they receive the honor and benefits they deserve.
"It's time to complete our mission in Iraq and bring our troops home safe and sound."
