With roughly a week before the Supercommittee’s deadline, more than a hundred federal lawmakers have signed a letter urging the committee to “go big, in supporting a $4 trillion plan to reduce the deficit.
To hit that benchmark Congressman Ron Kind says “everything has to be on the table” including revenue increases, spending cuts, reforms and plans to spur the economy. He adds the latter is the most important element as the slow economy is the biggest contributor to the deficit.
The Democratic lawmaker says the bi-partisan push is a welcome change from the back and forth sniping between parties. Kind says there been “not enough listening and talking to one another to find some common ground.”
Kind and Republicans Tom Petri and Reid Ribble are the Wisconsin lawmakers who signed onto the letter.
